María José Siri to make her debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Butterfly

On January 24, 2018 María José Siri will make her house debut at the Bavarian State Opera Munich as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, in a production by Wolf Busse and under the musical direction of Maestro Daniele Callegari. She will sing alongside Alexey Dolgov as B.F. Pinkerton, Okka von der Damerau as Suzuki and Levente Molnár as Sharpless. This is the first of a series of three performances running through January 30, 2018.

María José Siri first sang the eponymous heroine of Madama Butterfly for the inauguration of the 2016/17 season of the Teatro alla Scala, in the seldom performed original setting of the score; she was greeted with unanimous, overwhelming success, which led to her reprising the role – in its traditional final version – to the Macerata Opera Festival and to the Vienna State Opera. After Munich, the Uruguayan born soprano will bring her celebrated portrayal of the young Japanese geisha to the Deutsche Oper Berlin in February and March 2018 as well as the Hamburg State Opera in the same month of March 2018.

Beside the above mentioned Madama Butterfly runs, other upcoming engagements for María José Siri include the title role in a new production of Francesca da Rimini at the Teatro alla Scala Milan, Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires and concerts at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris and Bologna.
