Maria Mudryak to inaugurate the Shaanxi Grand Theatre making her debut as Liù in Turandot

On October 28, 2017, Maria Mudryak will take part in the inauguration of the Shaanxi Grand Theatre in China as Liù in Turandot, a role debut, in a production by Fabio Sparvoli conducted by Rico Saccani. Alongside her, Elizabeth Blancke-Biggs will interpret the title role,Marco Berti will sing the role of Calaf and Roberto Scandiuzzi that of Timur, while the three Masks will be Luca Grassi, Stefano Consolini and Emanuele D’Aguanno. There will be a repeat performance on October 30, 2017.

“I am so excited to debut the gorgeous role of Liù, a very sweet young woman gifted with an extraordinary inner strength”, states the young Kazakh born soprano. “She is the only one who dares defy Turandot. She interacts with the Icy Princess almost as if she were her equal, like a woman toward another woman, and not like a slave to a superior, and Fabio Sparvoli wishes to emphasize this strong side of hers. It is a marvelous production, with sets, costumes and projections that could have stepped out from a true fairy tale. We have a great cast, and an amazing conductor, Maestro Rico Saccani. Our Turandot will mark the birth of this grandiose new opera house, and – needless to say – I am so honored to have been chosen to be part of it.”

After this Turandot, Maria Mudryak’s 2017/2018 season engagements include Violetta in a new production of La traviata at the Teatro San Carlo Naples and Gilda in Rigoletto at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa and at the Teatro Regio Parma opposite Leo Nucci in the title role.
