Sonya Yoncheva makes her much-anticipated debut as Liza in Pikovaya Dama (The Queen of Spades) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She stars in Elijah Moshinsky’s evocative production, under the baton of Keri-Lynn Wilson, alongside a distinguished cast that includes Arsen Soghomonyan as Gherman, Violeta Urmana as the Countess, Alexey Markov as Tomsky, Igor Golovatenko as Prince Yeletsky, and Maria Barakova as Pauline. The premiere is on May 23, with additional performances on May 28, 31, and June 4 and 7.

Liza represents Yoncheva’s third venture into the world of Tchaikovsky heroines, following her acclaimed portrayals of Tatyana in Eugene Onegin and the title role in Iolanta, which she most recently performed in a new production at the Wiener Staatsoper.
