RAFFAELLA LUPINACCI | ANNA BOLENA | AMSTERDAM

Raffaella Lupinacci will make her house debut at the Dutch National Opera of Amsterdam on May 10, singing Giovanna Seymour in a new production of Anna Bolena by Jetske Mijnssen and under the musical direction of Maestro Enrique Mazzola. This is the premiere of a series of seven performances running through May 29, 2022. She will share the stage with Marina Rebeka in the title role, Adrian Sâmpetrean as Enrico VIII, Ismael Jordi as Lord Riccardo Percy and Alice Molinari as Smeton.

“The role of Giovanna Seymour is very challenging”, states the young mezzo-soprano. “Vocally, it sits on a particularly high tessitura, and the goal of the interpreter should be trying to convey all the colors, nuances and intentions required by Donizetti through breath control. From a stage point of view, the challenge is to make the “good” Giovanna as described in literature coexist with her undeniable ambitious traits. My goal is to be able to express both her sensuality and personal ambitions with the sense of guilt she undeniably feels for Anna.”

The Calabria born singer made her highly acclaimed role debut as Giovanna Seymour at the Lithuanian Opera Vilnius in 2020 and reprised it earlier this year at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa.
