On July 21, 2019, Scott Hendricks will return to the Bregenz Festival to sing the title part in Philipp Stölz’s new production of Rigoletto conducted by Enrique Mazzola. He will share the stage with Pavel Valuzhin (Duca di Mantova), Stacey Alleaume (Gilda), Goderdzi Janelidze (Sparafucile), Rinat Shaham (Maddalena/Giovanna) and Jordan Shanahan (Monterone) in the main roles. There will be a total of 10 performances running through August 18.
Scott Hendricks is a frequent guest at the Bregenz Festival and made his festival debut in 2005 as Conte di Luna in Il trovatore on the floating stage, where he returned as Scarpia in Tosca, Carlo Gérard in Andrea Chénier and Escamillo in Carmen. At the Bregenz Festspielhaus, he starred the title role of Szymanowski’s King Roger and in Stabat Mater by the same composer in 2009.
This year, Scott Hendricks performed the title parts in two world premieres: in Mark Grey’s Frankenstein at La Monnaie and Moritz Eggert’s M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder at the Komische Oper Berlin. After this Rigoletto in Bregenz, the American baritone will sing Jaroslav Prus in a new staging of Věc Makropulos at the Zurich Opera House.
