On April 13, 2019 Sonya Yoncheva will sing Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello with Zubin Mehta and the Berlin Philharmonic at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. The performance, which is the first of four, will premiere a new Robert Wilson production as part of the theater’s 2019 Easter Festival. Additional performances will be on April 16, 19, and 22. Stuart Skelton will sing the title role, and Vladimir Stoyanov Iago, Francesco Demuro Cassio, Anna Malavasi Emilia, Gregory Bonfatti Roderigo, Federico Sacchi Lodovico and Giovanni Furlanetto Montano.
As Desdemona, Ms. Yoncheva most recently enthralled audiences at the Metropolitan Opera under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel as she reprised her role in the Bartlett Sher production, in which she first appeared at its premiere on the occasion of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2015/2016 season opening.
Later this month she will join the Berlin Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta as Desdemona again, singing two concert performances of Otello at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
