SONYA YONCHEVA AS TOSCA AT BERLIN STAATSOPER

On May 3, 2019 Sonya Yoncheva will return to the Berlin Staatsoper unter den Linden singing the title role in Tosca, conducted by Domingo Hindoyan in a staging by Alvis Hermanis. The performances will run through May 12, and will also feature Teodor Ilincăi and Andrzej Dobber, among others.

Ms. Yoncheva made her role debut as Tosca in the 2017/2018 season at the Metropolitan Opera, while simultaneously premiering David McVicar’s new staging of the work. Her “refined, thoughtful Tosca,” characterized by the Bulgarian soprano’s “richly textured and shimmering” voice (The New York Times) was warmly received by audiences and critics alike. She comes to this production at the Staatsoper after last appearing there as the title role in Medea.

Following the performances in Berlin, Ms. Yoncheva will sing the same role at the Opéra de Paris and at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.
