On October 15, 2022, Sonya Yoncheva will make her role debut as Fedora at the Teatro alla Scala, in a new production by Mario Martone and under the musical direction of Maestro Marco Armiliato, the first of a series of seven performances running through November 3, 2022. She will share the stage with Roberto Alagna alternating with Fabio Sartori as Loris, Serena Gamberoni as Olga and George Petean as De Siriex.
The Bulgarian soprano returns to the Teatro alla Scala following various concerts and highly acclaimed performances as Imogene in Il pirata and Mimì in La bohème. After this Fedora in Milano, Sonya Yoncheva will bring the role of the vengeful Russian princess to the Metropolitan Opera in a new production opening on New Year’s Eve.
Fedora is Sonya Yoncheva’s second Giordano role, after having previously tackled to great acclaim Stephana in Siberia. She will add to her repertoire a third part of the Italian Verismo composer next year at La Scala, Maddalena di Coigny in Andrea Chénier.
