SONYA YONCHEVA IN IL PIRATA AT THE TEATRO REAL MADRID

On November 30, 2019, Sonya Yoncheva will sing the role of Imogene in Il pirata, in a production by Emilio Sagi under the musical direction of Maestro Maurizio Benini, the first of a series of six performances running through December 15, 2019. She will share the stage with Javier Camarena in the title role and George Petean as Ernesto.

Sonya Yoncheva made her highly acclaimed role debut as Imogene at the Teatro alla Scala in the 2017/2018 season in the same Emilio Sagi production and was greeted with rave reviews: Il Giorno described her as “an Imogene worthy of the Bellini hall of fame”, while for La Stampa hers was a performance of a “true primadonna”.

The Bulgarian soprano first graced the stage of the Teatro Real Madrid as Norina in Don Pasquale in 2009, returning there this past summer for an all Verdi recital.

After this Madrid Pirata, Sonya Yoncheva’s upcoming engagements include Mimì in La bohème at the Royal Opera House London, the title role in Médée at the Berlin State Opera, Tosca at the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera, role debuts as Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Metropolitan Opera New York and Fedora at the Teatro alla Scala (an opera she will also perform at the Festival Radio France Montpellier), Violetta in La traviata at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the “Ad una stella” recital at the Palau de la Música Barcelona.
