SONYA YONCHEVA IN THE TITLE ROLE OF MÉDÉE IN BERLIN

On February 8, 2020, Sonya Yoncheva will sing the role of Médée in Cherubini’s homonymous masterpiece at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, in a production by Andrea Breth under the musical direction of Maestro Oksana Lyniv, the first of a series of four performances running through February 21, 2020. She will sing alongside Francesco Demuro as Jason, Iain Peterson as Créon, Slávka Zámečníková as Dircé and Marina Prudenskaya as Néris.

Sonya Yoncheva starred in this same production when it was unveiled in the 2018/2019 season and which marked her role debut. Other roles she has performed at the Berlin State Opera include Tosca and Violetta in La traviata

Upcoming engagements for the Bulgarian soprano include the title role of Tosca at the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera, her role debuts as Manon in Manon Lescaut at the Metropolitan Opera New York and as Fedora at the Teatro alla Scala and the Festival Radio France Montpellier, Violetta in La traviata at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, “Ad una Stella” recitals at the Palau de la Música Barcelona and the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and the concert “Summer Hits 1600” at the Salzburg Festival.
