On February 29, 2024, Sonya Yoncheva brings her highly praised portrayal of Mimì in La bohème for one-off performance at the Sofia Opera in her native Bulgaria, in a production by Boyko Bogdanov and under the musical direction of Boian Videnoff. She will share the stage with Liparit Avetisyan as Rodolfo, Veselin Mihaylov as Marcello, Stanislava Momekova as Musetta, Anton Andreev as Schaunard, Bozhidar Bozhkilov as Colline in the other lead roles.

Sonya Yoncheva has performed the role of the ill-fated seamstress on some of the most prestigious international stages, including the Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, and Opéra National de Paris, to name but a few.

In December 2023, at the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis in Plovdiv the official ceremony was held where Sonya Yoncheva was awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Cause by the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts “Prof. Asen Diamandiev”, Plovdiv – for her outstanding contribution to the development of culture and opera art, as well as for her activities for the benefit of society and protection of the rights of children and young people.
