SONYA YONCHEVA | BERLIN, BARCELONA & MADRID

On April 20, 2022, Sonya Yoncheva will perform her much celebrated recital Ad una stella at the Berlin Philharmonie, accompanied by Malcolm Martineau on the piano. The Bulgarian soprano has already presented Ad una stella, which includes music by Henri Duparc, Pauline Viardot, Ernest Chausson, Léo Delibes, Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppe Martucci, Paolo Tosti and Giuseppe Verdi, on numerous prestigious stages worldwide including the Metropolitan Opera, Salle Gaveau Paris, Enescu Festival Bucharest, Munich Opera Festival, Palau de les Arts Valencia, Théâtre du Capitol Toulouse, Teatro Real Madrid, Salle Garnier Monte-Carlo, and the Vilar Performing Arts Center Beaver Creek Colorado. Previous appearances at the Berlin Philharmonie include a Verdi Tour-Gala Concert and Desdemona in Otello.

Following this recital, Sonya will make her highly anticipated house debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in a solo concert led by Nayden Todorov on April 30. The programme will include “Toi qui sus le néant des grandeurs de ce monde” from Verdi’s Don Carlos, “In quelle trine morbide” from Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, “Pace, pace, mio Dio” from Verdi’s La forza del destino, “Se come voi piccina io fossi” from Puccini’s Le villi, “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca and “Un bel dì vedremo” from Madama Butterfly.

On May 6 and 9, Sonya will head to another prestigious Spanish opera house, the Teatro Real of Madrid to reprise Giordano’s Siberia in the very first performances of the Verismo opera in the theatre’s history. Singing the role of Stephana, Sonya will share the stage with Murat Karahan, George Petean, Elena Zilio, Mercedes Gancedo, Alejandro del Cerro, Albert Casals, Tomeu Bibiloni and Fernando Radó in the other parts. Domingo Hindoyan will lead the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real. Sonya Yoncheva made her role debut as Stephana in summer 2017 in concert at the Festival Radio France of Montpellier and reprised it last year for a staged run at the Maggio Musicale in Florence.
