On July 13, Irina Lungu returns to the Teatro alla Scala in a concert featuring former pupils of the Teatro alla Scala Academy and young singers at the beginning of their careers. The concert titled New Voices at La Scala is part of the theatre’s reopening concert series, after a closure of almost five months due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Irina Lungu began her stellar career as a member of the academy of the prestigious theatre, where she made her debut still being an academy student as Anaï in the 2003/04 season inauguration production of Moïse et Pharaon conducted by Riccardo Muti. Other iconic roles of her repertoire followed quickly at La Scala, among them Oksana in Čerevički, the title roles of Sancta Susanna and Maria Stuarda, Marguerite in Faust, Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Nannetta in Falstaff. In the 2006/07 season, she made her acclaimed title role debut as La traviata conducted by Lorin Maazel in the legendary Liliana Cavani staging, reprising it the following season and in the 2013/14 season inauguration production by Dmitri Tcherniakov conducted by Daniele Gatti.

In the July 13 concert, Irina Lungu will sing arias and duets from Massenet’s Manon and of Puccini’s La bohème accompanied by Maestro Michele Gamba on the piano. Other singers include Federica Guida, Caterina Sala, Szilvia Vörös, Raffaele Abete, Fabio Capitanucci and Jongmin Park.
