Irina Lungu sings her twelfth Teatro alla Scala role on April 16, 2024, as she debuts the part of Nedda in Pagliacci in a Mario Martone production and under the musical direction of Giampaolo Bisanti. She will share the stage with Fabio Sartori as Canio, Amartushvin Enkhbat alternating with Roman Burdenko as Tonio, Jinxhu Xiahou as Beppe, and Mattia Olivieri as Silvio.
There will be eight additional performances through May 5, 2024.
Irina Lungu, who made her La Scala debut as Anaï in Moïse et Pharaon in the 200/2004 season, has been feted by the Scala audience as Violetta in La traviata (two different productions), Maria Stuarda, Sancta Susanna, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Oksana in Čerevički, Marguerite in Faust, Nannetta in Falstaff. She also did an unprecedented feat in the history of that legendary theater, singing both Mimì and Musetta in La bohème in the same season. This season, she previously sang Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra.
