On September 30, 2018 María José Siri will make her Teatro Regio Parma as well as Verdi Festival debuts as Odabella in Attila, in a new production by Andrea De Rosa and under the musical direction of Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti, the first of a series of four performances running through October 21. She will share the stage with Riccardo Zanellato and Michele Pertusi in the title role, Vladimir Stoyanov as Ezio and Francesco Demuro as Foresto.

“Odabella is driven by an all-consuming desire for revenge: Attila has murdered her father and throughout the opera her only goal is to kill him, so that even her feelings for her love interest, Foresto, seem phony”, says the Uruguayan born soprano about the fierce Verdi heroine. “I admire her because she is a fighter like me, although love, and not hate, is what motivates me.”

This is Maria José Siri’s second outing as Odabella, having previously sang it to rave reviews at the Teatro Comunale Bologna in the 2015/2016 season.

After this Attila, Maria José Siri’s 2018/2019 season engagements include a concert at the Teatro Regio Parma, the title role in a new production of Manon Lescaut at the Teatro alla Scala, at the Hamburg State Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin, a Verdi Gala Concert at the Teatro alla Scala on New Year’s Eve, the title role of Madama Butterfly at the Royal Opera House Muscat, the protagonist of Tosca at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, Maddalena in Andrea Chénier at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Maifestspiele Wiesbaden, and the soprano soloist in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Bregenz Festival.
