TOSCA | GEORGE GAGNIDZE | WARSAW

George Gagnidze returns to one of his signature roles, Baron Scarpia, in a major concert performance of Puccini’s Tosca at Plac Centralny in Warsaw on June 28, 2026, alongside Sonya Yoncheva as Tosca and Jonathan Tetelman as CavaradoTOSCAssi. Conducted by Bassem Akiki, the performance brings together Sinfonia Varsovia and the Chór Filharmonii Narodowej.

Widely regarded as one of today’s leading dramatic baritones, George Gagnidze has portrayed Scarpia at many of the world’s foremost opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House, and the Arena di Verona. It was this very role that first brought him major international attention in 2008, when he sang Scarpia under Lorin Maazel with the New York Philharmonic. His interpretation of Puccini’s corrupt police chief is acclaimed for its vocal authority, aristocratic menace, and explosive dramatic intensity.
