On October 3, 2021, Sonya Yoncheva will sing the title role of Tosca at the Opernhaus Zürich, in a Robert Carsen production and under the musical direction of Maestro Paolo Carignani, the first of a series of five performances running through October 17. She will share the stage with Joseph Calleja as Cavaradossi and Thomas Johannes Mayer as Scarpia. The Bulgarian soprano, who returns to the Opernhaus Zürich following a triumphant house debut in 2015 singing the title role of La traviata, was celebrated as the Roman Diva earlier this year at the Wiener Staatsoper for her “entchantingly beautiful” singing (Kurier), her “focused, silvery, velvety shimmering voice” (Der Neue Merker) and her embodiment of “a heroine full of femininity” (Toute la Culture). She has also sung the part in a new production at the Metropolitan Opera, at the Staatsoper Berlin and Staatsoper München.
