GEORGE GAGNIDZE IN OTELLO IN WASHINGTON

On October 26, 2019, George Gagnidze will debut at the Washington National Opera as Iago in Otello, in a production by David Alden and under the musical direction of Maestro Daniele Callegari, the first of a series of five performances running through November 16, 2019. He will sing alongside Russell Thomas in the title role and Leah Crocetto as Desdemona. The Georgian baritone, who last season celebrated his one-hundredth performance at the Metropolitan Opera New York, is no stranger to Verdi’s Shakespearean villain, having already sung it at the Opéra National de Paris, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonics, National Theatre of Greece in Athens and the Hamburg State Opera, where he debuted it in 2014.

After this Otello, George Gagnidze’s upcoming engagements include Scarpia in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera and Teatro San Carlo Naples, the title role in Nabucco at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Iago in a gala performance of Otello at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.
