On November 23, 2018 George Gagnidze will add a new role to his repertoire, Michele in Il tabarro at the Metropolitan Opera. The centennial production of Puccini’s Il trittico by Jack O’Brien will be conducted by Bertrand de Billy and will run until December 15.
The performance on December 8 will mark George Gagnidze’s 100th Met performance. The Georgian baritone has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera every season since his house debut as Rigoletto in the 2008/2009 season and starred in two new productions, as Scarpia in Tosca in 2009 and as Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and Tonio in Pagliacci in 2015.
After this Tabarro he will make another Puccini role debut, as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Opera House Muscat, will perform Iago in Otello at the Paris Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the title role of Rigoletto at the Met.
