On November 2, 2017 Irina Lungu will make her operatic debut at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow as Violetta in La traviata, in a production by Francesca Zambello conducted by Tugan Sokhiev. She will share the stage with Liparit Avetisyan as Alfredo and Alexey Markov as Giorgio Germont, and will sing an additional performance on November 4, 2017.
Irina Lungu has already appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2015 for the Elena Obraztsova Opera Ball gala concert celebrating the legendary mezzo-soprano, but this will be her first performance in a complete opera.
“I’m thrilled to make my operatic debut in this marvelous theatre. Singing on this historic stage is a highlight in every singer’s career, and particularly for Russian singers such as myself. After having concentrated on four bel canto role debuts this year I now return to the role of Violetta in La traviata, a part I have performed about 150 times around the world. My last appearance in the role was in July 2016 at the Paris Opera with Plácido Domingo as Germont and I’m so happy to reprise it now in Moscow after more than a year. I must say I have missed Violetta!”
After this Moscow engagement, Irina Lungu’s 2017/2018 calendar includes La traviata at the New National Theatre Tokyo and in Seoul, her debut as Manon in Massenet’s opera at the ABAO Bilbao, Rachmaninov’s Les Cloches at the Philharmonie de Paris, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Den Norske Opera Oslo, the title role in Anna Bolena at the Teatro Filarmonico Verona.
