On November 13, 2018 Maria José Siri will return to the Staatsoper Hamburg to reprise her portrayal of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut in a staging by Philipp Himmelmann conducted by Christoph Gedschold. She will share the stage with Jorge de León (Des Grieux), Kartal Karagedik (Lescaut) und Tigran Martirossian (Geronte di Ravoir) in the main roles. There will be two repeat performances on November 20 and 29.
Maria José Siri made her debut in the title role of Manon Lescaut in 2014 in her native Uruguay at the Teatro Solís in Montevideo and performed it in the same year for her debut at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia conducted by Plácido Domingo. She also earned accolades for her performances as Manon Lescaut at the Theatro Municipal of Sao Paulo, the Teatro Regio of Turin, the Grand Théâtre of Geneva and the Teatro San Carlo of Naples.
Later this season the Uruguayan soprano will return to the Teatro alla Scala in a new David Pountney production of the rarely performed 1893 original version of Manon Lescaut conducted by Riccardo Chailly and will sing Puccini’s masterpiece at the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.
