María José Siri in Madama Butterfly at the Deutsche Oper Berlin

On February 25, 2018 María José Siri will return to the Deutsche Oper as Cio-Cio-San in a production of Madama Butterfly by Pier Luigi Samaritani under the musical direction of Maestro Carlo Rizzi, the first of a series of three performances running through March 10, 2018. She will appear alongside Piero Pretti as Pinkerton, Jana Kurucová as Suzuki and Dong-Hwan Lee as Sharpless.

This season María José Siri has already brought her highly lauded portrayal of the tragic Puccini heroine to the Vienna State Opera and to the Bavarian State Opera; after Berlin, she will reprise it at the Hamburg State Opera. The Uruguayan soprano made her role debut on the occasion of the inauguration of 2016/2017 season of the Teatro alla Scala, performing the rarely heard first setting of the Puccini masterpiece. The following summer she made her debut in the revised traditional version at the Macerata Opera Festival.

In addition to the above mentioned Madama Butterfly performances, other upcoming engagements for María José Siri include the title role in a new production of Francesca da Rimini at the Teatro alla Scala Milan, Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Odabella in Attila for the Festival Verdi at the Teatro Regio Parma, and concerts at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris and Bologna.
