María José Siri makes her debut in India at the NCPA Mumbai

MARIA JOSÉ SIRI TO MAKE HER DEBUT IN INDIA IN AN OPERATIC GALA CONCERT WITH THE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF INDIA CONDUCTED BY CARLO RIZZI AT THE NCPA MUMBAI

On February 2, 2017 María José Siri will join tenor Simon O’Neill in an Opera Gala with the Symphony Orchestra of India under the musical direction of Carlo Rizzi at the NCPA Mumbai, making her debut in India.

The Uruguayan soprano will perform excerpts from Verdi’s Otello and Giordano’s Andrea Chénier. “I am looking forward to working for the first time with tenor Simon O’Neill and to find colleagues, such as bass Matteo Peirone, with whom I have often shared the stage and Maestro Carlo Rizzi, under whose musical direction I frequently had the pleasure to sing. I do not know the Indian audiences, but I am sure they will respond enthusiastically to our performance and opera in general. India is a country I always wanted to visit and I am thrilled to make my debut here.”

Maria José Siri just scored a triumph in the inauguration of the 2016/2017 season of the Teatro alla Scala as the protagonist of Madama Butterfly. After a much lauded recent participation to Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Marek Janoswki, other performanes this season include Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Regio of Turin, the Grand Théâtre of Geneva and the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, Andrea Chénier at the Rome Opera House, Andrea Chénier and Tosca at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as the title role of Madama Butterfly at the Macerata Opera Festival.
