On September 14, 2017 Maria Mudryak will return to Florence as Mimì in La bohème at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, a new production by Bruno Ravella conducted by Maestro Francesco Ivan Ciampa. Alongside her, Matteo Lippi will sing the role of Rodolfo, Benjamin Cho that of Marcello, Angela Nisi will be Musetta, Goran Jurić Colline and Andrea Vincenzo Bonsignore will interpret Schaunard. This will be the first of a series of five performances running through September 30, 2017.

Mimì is Maria Mudryak’s second role for the Florence Opera, following a highly successful appearance as Violetta in La traviata in open air performances at the Palazzo Pitti last year “I have sung Mimì twice before, at the Teatro Coccia in Novara and at the Astana Opera”, says the Kazakh soprano. “Mimì is a twenty-two year old young woman, shy, poetic and gentle: she may not be rich but she immensely loves life. She loves Rodolfo and it is very important for me to be able to convey this love that lasts through hardships, even in the final moments of her life. Moreover, it is interesting to put together Mimì’s simplicity with Puccini’s passional music.” When asked about the Florence production, the soprano replies:” This is a fairly traditional staging, and I like Bruno Ravella’s choice to make the loft as small as a room, to underline the Bohemians’s little world. I already knew some of my colleagues and I’ve met others for the first time: we have quickly become friends and also similar to the characters we play, which is positive as our acting becomes plausible. Maestro Francesco Ivan Ciampa has been giving us all immense help, and we have created our characters together with him.”

After this Florentine Bohème, Maria Mudryak’s 2017/2018 season engagements include her debut as Marie in La fille du régiment at NCPA Beijing, a new production of La traviata at the Teatro San Carlo Naples, Liù in Turandot at the Shaanxi Opera, Gilda in Rigoletto at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, at the Teatro Regio Parma and at the Teatro Massimo Palermo opposite Leo Nucci in the title role, and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Massimo Palermo.
