On July 8, 2023, Mark S. Doss returns to Venice to sing the bass soloist part in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in St Mark’s Square as part of the symphonic season of the Teatro La Fenice. Conducted by Juraj Valčuha, he will sing alongside soprano Federica Lombardi, mezzo-soprano Veronica Simeoni, and tenor Michael Schade. The huge open-air event will be live telecast on RAI5 and live broadcast on RAI Radio 3.

The American bass-baritone was last heard at the Teatro La Fenice last summer as Captain Balstrode in Peter Grimes, again under Maestro Valčuha, to rave reviews.

Mark S. Doss has made a specialty of Beethoven’s final symphony, having sung it under many prominent conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Edo de Waart, James Paul, Bobby McFerrin, and Hugh Wolf.
