On June 24, 2022, Mark S. Doss will sing the role of Captain Balstrode in the first ever performance of Britten’s Peter Grimes at the Teatro La Fenice of Venice. This is a new production by Paul Curran conducted by Maestro Juraj Valčuha, which features a series of five performances running through July 5, 2022.

He will share the stage with Andrew Staples in the title role, Emma Bell as Ellen Orford, Sara Fulgoni as Auntie and Rosalind Plowright as Mrs. Sedley, among others.

The bass-baritone, who has already performed the role of Balstrode, notably at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, is returning to the Teatro La Fenice, where previously he has performed Premysl in Janácek’s Sarka in 2009.
