SAIMIR PIRGU IN BEETHOVEN’S 9TH SYMPHONY IN NAPLES

On September 2, 2018 Saimir Pirgu will be the tenor soloist in a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Teatro San Carlo under the musical direction of Maestro Zubin Mehta. He will sing alongside soprano Federica Lombardi, mezzo-soprano Veronica Simeoni and bass Goran Juric.

Saimir Pirgu has already sung Beethoven’s work, most recently at the Reggia of Caserta under Juraj Valčuha and at the Arena of Verona under Daniel Oren. “The Ninth Symphony is an absolute masterpiece”, says the Albanian born, Italian naturalized tenor. “The tenor part, albeit relatively short, presents significant vocal and musical hurdles, as the composer treats the voices as part of the instrumental thread. It is easy to understand how it is crucial to be able to rely on a phenomenal quartet for a first class rendition of this masterpiece.”

After this concert, Saimir will travel to Bangkok together with the Teatro San Carlo to make his role debut as Don José in Carmen, again under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
