April 25, 2019
On April 25 and 28, 2019 Sonya Yoncheva will join Zubin Mehta and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as Desdemona for two concert performances of Otello, bringing their interpretation of the work from the Baden-Baden Easter Festival to the Berlin Philharmonie. The performances will also feature soloists Arsen Soghomonyan (Otello) and Luca Salsi (Iago), among others, and the Berlin Rundfunkchor.
Ms. Yoncheva has received glowing reviews for her performances as Desdemona in Robert Wilson’s new staging at Baden-Baden earlier this month, praised by critics for her “exquisite cantilenas” (Die Rheinpfalz) the “ tender, glowing intimacy” of her soprano (Gmünder Tagespost) and for her “finely spun pianissimo high notes” (Neue Zürcher Zeitung).
Following this engagement, Ms. Yoncheva will sing Tosca at the Berlin Staatsoper in early May before appearing with the Paris Philharmonic Orchestra in Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Paris at the end of that month.
