On December 18, 2021, Sonya Yoncheva will sing the role of Mimì in La bohème at the Berlin State Opera, in a production by Lindy Hume and under the musical direction of Domingo Hindoyan, the first of a series of six performances running through January 2, 2022. She will share the stage with Carles Castronovo as Rodolfo, Elsa Dreisig as Musetta, Adam Kutny as Marcello, Davia Oštrek as Colline, Charles Pachón as Schaunard and Olaf Bär as Benoit/Alcindoro.
The soprano has performed performed the role of the young seamstress at many of the world’s leading stages, such as the Teatro alla Scala Milan, the Opéra National de Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera, where she caused a sensation in her 2014 role debut only a few weeks after giving birth to her first child. Sonya returns to this production at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden following previous performances in the 2015/16 season.
At the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Sonya has also starred in new productions of La traviata and Médée, as Tosca and in the Rolex Perpetual Music Concert in support of musicians during the challenging period of COVID-19.
