SONYA YONCHEVA | MADAMA BUTTERFLY | VIENNA

New role debut for Sonya Yoncheva, who, on June 20, 2023, will return to the Vienna State Opera for her very first Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, in the celebrated production by Anthony Minghella and under the musical direction of Antonello Manacorda. She will sing alongside Charles Castronovo as Pinkerton, Boris Pinkhasovich as Sharpless, Szilvia Vörös as Suzuki, and Andrea Giovannini as Goro. There will be three additional performances through June 29, 2023.

The Bulgarian soprano made her Vienna State Opera debut as Juliette in Roméo et Juliette in 2013, subsequently returning as Marguerite in Faust in 2014, for a concert in 2017, and as Tosca in 2021.

Cio-Cio-San will be Sonya Yoncheva’s fourth Puccini roles, after her highly acclaimed portrayals of Mimì in La bohème, Manon Lescaut, and Tosca, which, later this summer, she will interpret in Baden Baden, Gstaad, and the Arena di Verona.
