On March 2, 2019, Sonya Yoncheva will make her Budapest debut, appearing in concert at the Hungarian State Opera’s Italian Gala at the Erkel Theatre. She will perform alongside fellow soloists Gergely Boncsér, Mihály Kálmándy, Csaba Szegedi, and András Palerdi with Hungarian State Opera Orchestra, Chorus, and Children’s Chorus conducted by Balázs Kocsár. The evening, which pays tribute to Puccini and his contemporaries, is directed by András Almási-Tóth (artistic director) and Tamás Solymosi (ballet director).

Ms. Yoncheva will sing a selection of arias and duets from works by Puccini. Her program will include “Se come voi piccina io fossi” (Anna – Le Villi); “Sì, mi chiamano Mimì” and “Donde lieta uscì” as well as the duet “O soave fanciulla” (Mimì – La Boheme); “In quelle trine morbide” (Manon – Manon Lescaut); and “Un bel dì vedremo” (Cio-Cio San – Madama Butterfly).

The event, which marks the end of the ball season in Budapest, is one of several annual gala concerts hosted by the opera house.
