On August 25, 2020, Sonya Yoncheva will return to her hometown Plovdid after an absence of more than seven years for an Opera Gala titled “Coming Back”. Sonya will sing alongside tenor Marin Yonchev and bass Bojidar Bojkilov under the baton of Maestro Nayden Todorov leading the Orchestra of the Plovdiv State Opera. They will perform arias and duets by Verdi, Mascagni, Puccini among others. The event will take place at the magnificent Roman theatre built in the late 1st century A.D..
Sonya has chosen the young Bulgarian bass Bojidar Bojkilov among 50 candidates to sing with her in this “Coming Back” concert. The bass is only 26 years old and has a bright future ahead of him. From next season on, he will be studying at the Teatro alla Scala Academy.
Right after this “Coming Back” concert, Sonya will star in an Opera Gala with Vittorio Grigolo conducted by Plácido Domingo at the Arena di Verona on August 29, in a “Perpetual Music” Gala by Rolex at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin on the 1st of September and at the re-opening concert of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden on September 4.
