May 15, 2025

MISSA SOLEMNIS | ERIKA GRIMALDI | WASHINGTON, D.C

Erika Grimaldi is set to add another monumental work to her repertoire as she makes her debut in the soprano solo part of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. Under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda, she will perform with the National Symphony Orchestra at one of America’s most prestigious classical music venues, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She joins an outstanding cast featuring Rihab Chaieb, Saimir Pirgu, and Marko Mimica. The performances are scheduled for May 15, 16, and 17.

The Piedmontese soprano was last heard at the Kennedy Center in the spring of 2024, earning critical acclaim for her portrayal of Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello. She is set to return next season, taking on two new Puccini roles: Giorgetta in Il tabarro and the title role in Suor Angelica.

From the heart, may it again go to the heart,” an inspired Beethoven wrote above the opening “Kyrie” in the manuscript of his greatest choral work, the Missa Solemnis. The Washington Chorus and remarkable guest soloists Erika Grimaldi, Rihab Chaieb, Saimir Pirgu, and Marko Mimica join the NSO for this epic Mass—a vast symphonic statement of mysticism, drama, and sacred intimacy.
